Abstract:   Energy efficient High Performance Computing is a major area of research at the Leibniz Supercomputer Center of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (LRZ-BAdW). Here, LRZ uses a novel integrated approach taking into account the energy consumption of all infrastructure components of the computing centre needed to operate the HPC systems as well.
For that purpose fine grained energy monitoring at all levels of the HPC systems and the building infrastructure have been implemented and the LRZ computing centre is equipped with a warm water cooling loop serving the direct liquid cooling technology of its SuperMUC supercomputer as well as its CooLMUC HPC cluster.
The talk gives an overview on these direct liquid cooled systems and the operational experiences and findings of LRZ.
