Abstract:   Data provided by the Top500 are of major interest to vendors and users, can facilitate collaborations and provides a better market perspective. Since the inception of the Green500 in 2007, there has been an attempt to provide consistent data on the power consumption of high-performance computers. It has been a challenge to collect these power numbers in a consistent manner in order to facilitate apples-to-apples comparison and thus extract reliable statistics. Why? The methodology used for power measurement has not had the same rigor as that provided by the data generated by running high-performance Linpack. The Top500, Green500, Energy Efficient HPC Working Group and the Green Grid have collaborated on improving the measurement methodology. Alpha and beta versions were tested for the June’12 and Nov’12 lists, respectively. This BoF will provide a forum for broader community evaluation and feedback on the Rev. 1.0 of the Power Measurement Methodology used by the Top500 and Green500.
