Abstract:   In this presentation, the Expec Computer Center (ECC) at Saudi Aramco will share its latest advancements of High Performance Computing (HPC), High Performance Storage (HPS) and Grid Computing, which are some of the main technologies used for the Seismic Processing and Reservoir Simulation applications at Saudi Aramco. Further, the presentation sheds light on Saudi Aramco’s patent, where a new domain decomposition strategy was developed to provide a novel load balancing technique when running Reservoir Simulations on heterogeneous grids. The Saudi Aramco Parallel Oil Water Enhanced Reservoir Simulator software (POWERS) can therefore be adjusted to detect heterogeneous grids, and adapts to the underlying infrastructure to minimize its runtime. The patent focuses on designing a scalable Grid model for Reservoir Simulation that allows running larger simulation models, as opposed to running them on smaller HPC clusters.
