Abstract:   ISC General Chairman Hans Meuer will open the 28th ISC conference, which is held in Leipzig, Germany for the very first time. University of Leipzig professor Klaus Peter Fähnrich will follow with his welcome address, and Martin Meuer of Prometeus will give an introduction to ISC’13. Hans Meuer will then announce the GAUSS and PRACE ISC Award winning papers. Please note that the actual awarding ceremony and paper presentations will take place during the Research Paper Sessions on Monday and Tuesday. An integral part of each Opening Session since 1993, when the TOP500 project started, has been the unveiling of the TOP500 list, which is embargoed until shortly before the session starts. This time, the winners of the 41st TOP500 list of different regions in the world will be announced, and Erich Strohmaier will focus on the “Highlights of the 41st TOP500 List.” in his presentation afterwards. Lastly, Michael Resch of HLRS Stuttgart will critically discuss the TOP500 approach in his presentation entitled “Citius, Altius, Fortius – The TOP500 & Why Speed Matters”.
