David H. Bailey is a Senior Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Before coming to the Berkeley Lab in 1998, he worked at NASA's Ames Research Center for 15 years. Bailey is a leading figure in the field of high-performance scientific computing, with research ranging from numerical algorithms to supercomputer performance studies. His paper on performing the fast Fourier transform on parallel and hierarchical memory computers is the now basis of most FFT implementations on modern computer systems, and his paper "The NAS Parallel Benchmarks" is widely cited in performance studies of scientific computer systems. He has received both the Sidney Fernbach Award from the IEEE Computer Society and the Gordon Bell Prize from ACM. In other research, he has published widely on high-precision computing, numerical analysis, experimental mathematics and mathematical finance. Bailey and his long-term collaborator Jonathan Borwein publish regular columns on science, computing and society in the Huffington Post, in the Conversation, and in their own blog, "Math Drudge."
