Dr. Jasper Horrell

General Manager, Square Kilometer Array Project

Dr. Jasper Horrell joined the South African Square Kilometre Array Project in 2005 with a focus on the development of the scientific computing. He has continued with the organization and now plays the role of General Manager: Science Computing and Innovation which brings a stronger focus on the innovation and commercialization side of the project. The hosting of a significant portion of the SKA in Africa is proving to be a catalyst for many related research and commercial initiatives including those around Big Data and Dr. Horrell plays a role in these. In addition, he is part of the SKA SA project executive and is responsible for coordinating SA's involvement in the pre-construction phase of the SKA. Prior to joining SKA SA, Dr. Horrell had a background which included Physics, Electrical Engineering and commercial software development. He lives in Cape Town with his family where he enjoys sporting activities and the outdoor lifestyle.
