Markus Diesmann is director of the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine, Computational and Systems Neuroscience (INM-6) and the Institute for Advanced Simulation, Theoretical Neuroscience (IAS-6) at the Jülich Research Centre and Professor for Computational Neuroscience at the Medical Faculty of RWTH Aachen University. He received his Diploma and PhD in Physics from the University of Bochum (Germany) in 1994 and 2002. The PhD work was conducted at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot (Israel) and continued at the University of Freiburg (Germany). In 1999 he joined the Max-Planck-Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, Goettingen (Germany) for a staff position. From 2004 to 2006 Markus Diesmann was appointed Juniorprofessor for Computational Neurophysics at the University of Freiburg. In September 2006 he moved to the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, Wako (Japan) for the position of a Unit and later Team Leader. Markus Diesmann joined Jülich and RWTH Aachen in March 2011.,
