Dr. Vince Betro

Computational Scientist, National Institute for Computational Sciences, University of Tennessee

Dr. Betro is a Computational Scientist at the National Institute for Computational Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he focuses his research on porting and optimizing applications for several accelerator architectures, especially the Intel Xeon Phi, and developing Computational Fluid Dynamics codes. He also works with XSEDE users to optimize their codes for Kraken, a petascale academic machine. He received his Ph.D. in Computational Engineering from the University of Tennessee SimCenter at Chattanooga in 2010, where he became research faculty and the STEM Outreach coordinator. His CFD research was in Cartesian Hierarchical Adaptive Anisotropic Mesh Generation, and he continues to work with the Meshing, Visualization, and Computational Environments Technical Committee for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics as a board member. Additionally, due to his background as a middle and high school mathematics teacher and college mathematics instructor, Vince enjoys working with students in his community to broaden their understanding of and interest in STEM careers and with the NASA/NIA Real World In World Student Design Competition.
